For each child and family, we start with a free consultation call to learn about the child’s unique challenges, needs, and goals, to see if we can help them.
Then we review and interpret documents and evaluations that are available for the child, so we can plan customized next steps.
As we move forward, we help with meetings and representation, customized depending on needs of each child. Often this includes some or all of the following:
- Before meetings with school staff, we work with children and parents/guardians to prepare for what will be discussed at the meeting. This can include review of documents (such as school records and assessments), and might also include observation of the child in their school setting.
- We attend Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, 504 meetings, parent/guardian-teacher conferences, and other meetings as applicable. We represent and advocate for children and families at meetings.
- We make sure children and families understand everything necessary before and during meetings.
- We provide explanations of what happened at meetings and prepare for next steps.
- We use data and information from evaluations and meetings to create goals and objectives.
As needed, we can also provide the following services for follow-up and resources:
- Letter writing and other outreach/making specific requests and recommendations
- Request special education testing and make sure a child receives appropriate and timely evaluations; we would reach out to a school to make the request to have the special education testing and evaluation for the child
- Provide resources and information about assistive technology, the Orton-Gillingham reading approach, or other efforts that can help the child
- Provide necessary referrals to help students succeed in school
- Make recommendations and collaborate with school district personnel to help the child
We can provide assistance in-person or via phone or video-conference, depending on what’s best for you.
